Here’s an idea: let’s do everything all at once. Awesome plan.
So, the lowdown…we’re moving on Friday and Saturday, the lab opens on Monday, and, well, I have to do all the stuff I normally do in that time period as well. Like pass classes and all.
We’ve been working on the computer lab remodel since at least January (at least that’s when I got involved) and even though the lab is opening on Monday, we’re still not ready. The new furniture is there, the place is electrically sound, we have the computers (though the software isn’t on all of them yet, and they’re not set up…), but we have yet to train the new consultants (Monday isn’t too late for that, right?) and we’re still working on the various policies (i.e., what do you do if there’s a power outage? Who knew there were so many contingencies?). Also, the place is not networked yet. Hope nobody wants to use those computers for the Internet or anything crazy like that… ;)
But it looks great, and we’ll eventually figure it all out. So it’s all good so long as we can all just get along and survive until we sort everything out. Which we will. I have to believe that for sanity’s sake. And you know, if this computer lab thing doesn’t work out, I think we could turn that space into a lovely little coffeeshop.
In other news, we get the keys to our new place tomorrow, we’re moving boxes on Friday, and we’re moving furniture on Saturday. Cross your fingers. Though we’re only moving 1/600th of the distance that our last move encompassed, disasters still happen, I suppose. With traffic on Main Street, which we’ll have to cross numerous times, I’ll be curious to see how long it’ll take us to go those two miles. Also, cross your fingers that the comcast guy shows up Friday morning like he (or she) is supposed to…I’m not sitting around an empty house for nothing, without television or Internet, you know.
Overall, just wish us luck. On anything you can think of. At least we’ll be moving out of the ghetto before the schools let out for summer. I’m not sure what that’ll gain me, but I’ll probably accidentally hit fewer people as I back the car out of the garage. Who walks (within two feet) in front of a garage while there’s a car backing out, anyway? Suicidal people? Utahns?
