Went south. Then came back.

Yes, I am still alive. I’ve been in Albuquerque at the Popular Culture/American Culture SW/Texas Regional Conference. Where I presented on sexy gamer girl images online. It was beautiful in New Mexico. Sunny, 60 degrees. Nice people. Diversity. Adobe buildings. Good food. The things I like. Even the Atomic Museum, one of my new favorite museums. Did you know the US almost blew up Albuquerque once? And a part of Spain? I learned that one should never transport nuclear weapons via aircraft unless one is prepared for accidents.

On the way back we stopped in Moab, my new favorite Utah place (not that it had a huge amount of competition…the Gateway Mall in SLC, I suppose). It was a really liberal place, which is saying something for Utah. We went to Arches National Park and hiked to Delicate Arch, the iconic mountainish rock of Utah (it’s on our freakin’ license plate, after all, so I can call it iconic). I almost fell of a mountain (Matt calls it a “steep hill” but I beg to differ) because it was icy…well, I almost fell down on the ice a few times, but I suppose the edge was a few feet away each time. And I got to hang on to the rock face. A word of advice–never go to Arches in the summer. You will melt then. Go in spring or fall. Or even winter. Except then be wary of ice.

I didn’t really want to come back to Logan–it was a nice break. We came back to an inversion and Logan being the most polluted place in the nation. We’re #1! And yesterday there was an earthquake in Wells, Nevada that people apparently felt here, but I felt nothing. I feel a little left out–never felt an earthquake. Don’t actually WANT to…but if everyone is going to, it’d be nice to feel like a part of a larger group. So long as the earthquake isn’t in Logan…I hope I didn’t just jinx us all. Pretty please?
